On a party...  Conversation is in Chinese.  Translated as perfectly as possible to English language...

Husband:  Ivan is 8.7 kilos.  That's about 19 lbs.  Ing-nga's daughter is so big but she's also of the same weight.

(Ing-nga is my husband's cousin.)

Bro-in-law's wife:  (Murmuring) Oh shhhheeesssshhhhh really.

Then, my husband leaves carrying Ivan to his parents.

Bro-in-law's wife:  (On me and on hubby's uncle's wife)   How can he be 19 lbs.  What did your husband said?  What's the weight of your son?

Me: 8.7 kilos.  That's what the doctor said.

Bro-in-law's wife: (In insulting smile while looking at me)  How can 8.7 kilos be 19 lbs?  8.7 kilos is less than 19 lbs, maybe only 17 lbs or less!

Me:  Hmmmm   (smiling...)

Bro-in-law's wife:   Look at your son!  He is thin.  Are you giving your son Cerelac?

Me:  Yes.

Bro-in-law's wife:  Do you give your baby soup to drink?  (The soup with potato and carrots)

Me:  No.  He just turned 6 months.  He's not yet ready for those foods.  It's oily.

Bro-in-law's wife:  Who said that?  You can give Cerelac and soup to a 3 months old baby.  Of course, the soup would be oily.  Put the soup on the refrigerator so the oil would freeze.  Then take the oils off.

Me:  Babies below 6 months should not be given any of the soups or cerelac.  We can't say, the baby is still so delicate at those times and the baby might get allergies or something.

Bro-in-law's wife:  (Again, with the insulting smile)  That's not true.    Look, your baby is so thin.  They are not feeding your baby the right way.  (Then looking at the other's...)  Tsk tsk tsk... blah blah blah

I leave the conversation.

I would like to put on to this blog...

8.7 kilos  x  2.2  =  19.14 pounds !!!

I assume that these people are uneducated. They don't know what they're talking about yet they act like they're so smart. Don't stoop to their level.

I remember how a colleague used to cry all the time when her baby was younger (he's 5 now). He's thin (especially under Tsinoy standards, you know naman that we like FAT babies, diba ?) and her parents / aunts / uncles and even other friends all put the blame on her. They talked as if it was my friend's failure as a mother that her kid is not fat.

But really, kids are different diba ? Some are voracious eaters while some are picky eaters. Yung matataba nilang anak, pag laki nyan, overweight. kawawa naman.

Payat lang talaga yung anak ko. Kawawa naman friend mo. Pero I guess Tsinoy don't like overweight babies ren hehehe. My boss' daughter was 20 kilos before she turned 2 years old. As in, she's that fat! She's over-size talaga.

Hayyy nako, I really hate that woman!!!
